Job Posting: Accounting & Compliance Specialist

Location: Oshawa, ON (In-office/Hybrid) Reports to: President

Salary: $50,00-$100,000

Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional to oversee the financial health and regulatory compliance of our growing insurance brokerage. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys “full-cycle” ownership—from daily bank reconciliations to high-level P&L analysis and RIBO trust reporting. You will ensure our financial operations are efficient, compliant, and transparent.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Direct all accounting operational functions, including GL maintenance, month-end closings, and trial balance reviews.
  • Prepare monthly financial packages with variance analysis for the management team.
  • Manage accruals, amortization journal entries, and reclassifications.
  • Conduct P&L analysis, focusing on revenue streams and sub-broker adjustments.

2. Regulatory & Trust Compliance (RIBO)

  • Manage RIBO Trust account guidelines to ensure strict compliance with provincial regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain RIBO Form 1 requirements.
  • Coordinate provincial reporting, including RST and EHT filings.
  • Lead the year-end audit process and serve as the primary point of contact for CRA inquiries.

3. Operational Accounting & Payroll

  • Oversee payroll processing (including commission calculations) and T4 preparation.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and manage long-term liability accounts.
  • Monitor cash flow forecasts to ensure operational liquidity.
  • Oversee capital asset accounting and review financial aspects of service contracts.

4. Systems & Training

  • Act as the subject matter expert for Applied EPIC accounting workflows.
  • Train team members on software procedures and financial best practices.
  • Collaborate with the management team to refine internal collection procedures and bad debt write-offs.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years in a full-cycle accounting role, preferably within the insurance or financial services sector.
  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Accounting/Finance. CPA designation or progress toward it is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Applied EPIC is highly preferred. Strong Excel skills are mandatory.
  • Knowledge: Firm understanding of RIBO regulations and trust accounting principles is a significant advantage.
  • Traits: High integrity, analytical mindset, and the ability to explain financial data to non-finance colleagues.
